Internet TV or IPTV, in other words "Internet Protocol TeleVision", allows access to television programs via an Internet connection, whether it is conventional ADSL, fiber at home or mobile 4G.
Of course, the traditional operators Orange, Free, SFR and Bouygues Telecom already offer access to television in their "triple play" offers including both internet, fixed telephony and television. In each of these offers, a TV decoder is added to the internet box for direct access to the television channels, free or pay, included in the proposed offer.
Initially, these offers only concerned home television, which was usually plugged into the TV set-top box provided by the operator. But with the spread of smartphones, they have gradually spread to other devices via WiFi. The operators then proposed free applications dedicated to TV access for tablets or smartphones, both on Android and on Apple.
However, these offers remain linked to "triple play" (internet, telephony, television) and today, we can also choose to benefit from non-binding so-called "OTT" offers on the web. We talk about these offers in detail later in this article. But let's start with some essential practical information!
